2006 Petite Syrah
Paso Robles
A varietally pure wine loaded with tons of blueberry, plum and violets, it packs
a wallop of rich tannins followed by smoky vanilla and a powerful graphite finish.
Although balanced and approachable now, patience will be rewarded. "You'll
have time to rest when you're dead." Robert De Niro
2005 Syrah
Paso Robles
A classic California Syrah with a Southern Rhone twist. Brickish red in
color, smoky oak and dark plum on the nose followed by subtle spice box
and bacon fat. The mouthfeel is viscous and rich with a slightly graphite
finish. Quite balanced and food friendly. Muscular, dark and handsome like
Denzel Washington in Malcolm X.
2006 "Raucous"
Paso Robles
Opaque, dense and chewy best describes this wine. A blend of Syrah, Cabernet
Sauvignon, Petite Syrah and Grenache, these strange bedfellows make good
company. Playing off of each other’s strengths in a symphony of rich
black cherry, chocolate and blueberry, the complexity seems endless much
like the finish, seamlessly framed with sweet vanilla and a touch of smoky
oak. (limited number of etched Jeroboams available: $205)
"Can you describe the ruckus?" ~The Breakfast Club
2006 Grenache
Paso Robles
This Chateauneuf-du-Pape-like wine offers heady aromatics of herbs de Provence
intermingled with bright red fruits. In the mouth it is smooth and elegant
in spite of its youthful vigor. Captivating flavors of dried cherries and
exotic sandalwood make this a supple and balanced wine very approachable
early on.
"It's sad to grow old, but nice to ripen." ~Brigitte
Bardot
2005 Cabernet Sauvignon
Paso Robles
This wine is a perfect example of Paso Robles Cabernet at its best. The
warm days and cool nights make it balanced and approachable. Deep burgundy
in color with chocolate covered cherries on the nose, the palate exhibits
rich black cherry, cola, chocolate caramel and cocoa subtly framed by toasty
French oak. It’s cool calm and collected like Pierce Brosnan in The
Thomas Crown Affair. $48/btl

2005 Petite Syrah
Paso Robles
The opaque purple color leans toward blue and so does the nose; we get
seductive blueberries and violets on the nose. The flavors delivered on
the palate are an unctuous meld of mushroom, soy sauce, leather, and licorice.
In spite of its brawn, the fruit, tannins and acidity are amazingly balanced.
An iron fist in a velvet glove, like Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman.

2005 Estate Syrah
Paso Robles
The character and quality resulting from low yields and high concentration
of fruit from these dry-farmed, head trained vines is unmistakable, despite
its young age. Graphite, violets and blue fruits on the nose followed
by an alluring intermingling of dried currants, dark chocolate and bacon
fat. It’s elegant and silky with a firm backbone of tannin. It’s
smooth and clean with a soft lingering finish of blueberry pie. $45/btl

2005 Estate Petite Syrah
Paso Robles
This is the only dry-farmed Petite Syrah in the area, giving it its distinctive
complexity. It has the intense dark color and firm tannins you would
expect, yet offers a unique synthesis of candied black cherries, coffee
bean, anise, tobacco, leather, and truffles to make it stand alone. The
limestone “Rockpile” block of the vineyard and 22 months of
barrel-aging in 100% new French oak can account for the chewy chalky characteristic. $45/btl
